tea, tragedy, and tulle: a little women mood board

Hello hello everyone! Media Mirage here and today's assignment was to create a mood board for the previous blog post that was about our movie shots. I was given the opportunity to do another movie, but I had to stick to my roots and do another post about little women and how good of a movie it is. I used Pinterest as my main source of images for this mood board because I realize that it comes up with far more visually pleasing photos so I decided to go for it.

I came up with most of these photos by looking up what each of the individual characters liked and viewed themselves as.

For example, the eldest of the March sisters is Meg March, she is a homebody and embraces the natural calling for a woman to become a mother, including doing the traditional works of a wife in the 1800's such as doing the laundry and living in a humble home as displayed by some of the photos in this mood board.

Second, there is the self righteous Jo March, who has an affinity for writing and has gotten quite skilled with the quill. So I added photos of writing and the quill to symbolize Jo's hobbies.

Of course you cannot forget the musically gifted Beth March, who has a quiet soul but loves to pet animals and play the piano. The photos I chose are the girl petting the horse, the pianos, and the sheet music perfectly emulate Beth's character.

And last but not least, cannot forget about the vindictive Amy March, who has always had a thing for the finer things in life, but for painting as well. I used the painting photos here to display her passion and how it drives her to do the things that she does throughout the movie.

That is all I have for today's vlog post! I hope all is well and I will see you on the next one!

*taps mic* is this thing on? 🎤: a sound story

Hello hello all! Today's task was to do show you all my sound story. I wanted to display a singer who is getting ready for their tour, so this included sounds of the paparazzi, putting on makeup, and walking, among many others. I hope you enjoy!

Sound Story:

My process was really simple, it was just the editing the sounds to make is sound realistic was the most challenging part of this assignment. I was using imovie which is used for more visual editing rather than sound editing, but I was most familiar with that program so I decided to use that, but after further reflection I believe I could've used another sound editing program like bandlab, which is another program I am familiar with. I got most of my pre-made clips from youtube, following the word "sound effect" to find the sounds I wanted. After that I screen recorded it and then imported the audio into imovie.

Script:

Arriving at a venue for tour

  1. Walking to the tour venue

    1. car screech

    2. car door open

    3. background paparazzi with camera flashes

    4. open door

    5. door loses background noise stops

  2. Getting ready

    1. makeup

      1. blush

      2. mascara

    2. putting on outfit

      1. lace corset

      2. zip shoes

      3. hairspray

  3. About to go on stage

    1. walking towards the stage, heels echoing, sound of cheers get louder

    2. door opens

    3. put on in ears (audience gets softer instrumental starts)

    4. muffled audience

    5. music starts

Foley Video:

It was challenging figuring out the sounds I want to do for each of my foley. I had to go through and test many sounds in attempt to figure out what sounds the most realistic, and this took many tries because I wanted the sounds to be as immersive as possible. Editing wasn't as hard because I would edit videos for fun and the idea of foley was something that interested me because online I would see videos of people doing it as a job and watching it was really satisfying and intriguing. I learned a lot about the work that goes into making a sound seem realistic, the layering of sounds is very intricate and very tedious in order to make the movie as realistic as possible. It has given me a new found respect for sound engineers, who use sound to showcase emotions and atmosphere.

Anyways that is all for me today, I hope you enjoy and I will see you at the next one!
