the start of the end: our final project idea

After much and careful deliberation, we have decided on our plan. Twister Sister Productions had decided to produce our first trailer entitled, "Mary Janes". About a paid killer who poses as a potential wife for boyfriends who have done their girlfriends of the past wrong. Our main character is going to prepare dessert for her suitor who is unknowingly about to have his last meal before dying at the hands of our main character.

Throughout the beginning, she is seen baking a pie, but throughout the scenes, you can tell that there is something wrong with her. The way that she cooks the cherry filling as if it's real blood or the way that a regular knife cuts the pie crust is not good enough, making her violent tendencies more obvious. As seen throughout the title sequence you can tell she is very meticulate and that she will do anything to get the job done.

In the opening scene, she is gonna be talking to her friends, asking her when she is gonna come back home, who all work in the company "Mary Janes", a hitwoman company disguised as a shoe store.

My gosh, I am so excited about this project. That is it from me, Media Mirage and I will see you all on the next one!

first impressions mean everything: a title sequence research

Hello hello all! This is Media Mirage back with another post! Today we were looking at other examples of title sequences so we have a feel about what we are gonna do for our trailer. Since me and Jadelyn were the only people in class today we started bouncing off ideas from each other. And Jadelyn told me about a show she liked called "Dexter" that she thinks the trailer could be used as inspiration for our title sequence. And the other two title sequences we talked about were my ideas, which were the show "Why Women Kill" and "WandaVision".

"Dexter"

So for this one, we really liked the imagery of blood through the title sequence, its very subtle but not in the same time. He's not outright killing anyone in the title sequence, but the use of blood and how it is displayed can easily make any viewer a little queasy. We liked how the blood was used as symbolism and how the blood turns into a title. THe meticulate detail allows the watcher to easily watch the disturbing scenes without getting uncomfortable. Like how the eggs bring cracks almost looks like a skull being cracked, these nuances makes the title sequence attention grabbing and interesting.

"Why Women Kill"

Even though this was a cartoon title track, it was nice to see the lighthearted music to go with such a vile action, adding to the irony. I really love the details that throughout this, she has always had a smile on her face, giving it an "Uncanny Valley" feeling. I love the touch of music and I definitely want to use music similar to this to add to the ambiance of this being in the 50's. One of my biggest struggles with dough something from this period is being able to bring the viewer into the time. Because the props and ambiance have a huge part in it.

"WandaVision"

UGHHHHH I LOVE WANDAVISION! I love the use of the black and white text, it gives it a vintage feel. I really like the graphics especially, that something I want to use for the trailer. I love the use of the text and the color grading which is also something I would like to adapt to the trailer. The trailer is very cartoony, as in the acting and I love that part too. As well as the costuming and the fact that the screen is square shape because TVs at the time were shaped as a square, so I would like to adopt that frame size as well.

Thats all for me today, I hope you enjoyed! Til the next one!

the first steps of our production: brainstorming!

Hello hello all! It is me, Media Mirage and I am back with another blog post. Today's task was to brainstorm ideas for our movie trailer. Since we didn't have all of our group members that day since Hanniyah wasn't in our class, Kash, the person closest to her, considered what she liked and we made ideas based on our interests.

Today we looked at different movie trailers we could do, but we all knew we wanted to do something huge and from a very different period. We then started talking about movies or shows we enjoyed and I brought up one of my favorite shows, “Why Women Kill”. And how its dark humor makes the show so unassuming and the jokes make me laugh. And then the idea to make the lead girl a killer who kills abusive husbands, for a very long period, right after their wife leaves them. so the plan was to create a title sequence similar to a show like “Wanda Vision” when it was set in the 50s and like the previously mentioned show “Why Women Kill.”

A pro was that it definitely would get us a good grade, given how creative we were, and looking at the past projects, no one was gonna do something surrounding the 50’s due to it being in a completely different time period. But to our surprise, Jadelyn one of our group members had a dress that fit exactly what we had in mind. And so we thought this idea might actually come to fruition.

However a con was how much time and set design it would take, as typical “retro” films are very hard to do right since the set has to be so reminiscence to it in order to pull the viewer in, it needs to seem genuine. however, it needs to be done that way or else it will seem too “costumey”.

anyways that's it for today until next time,

xoxo,
