Hello hello all I am back with another blogpost for you all today! Today we are talking about the representation in our title sequence "Irene”. I’d like to think in a school that is majority minority, we probably have a lot of diversity within our small but mighty production team.
We all feature people from all over the world, within the screen and behind it.
First let’s start off with me, I am fully and proudly Filipino and given that the Asian population isn’t very high in my school the representation in our short film is already off to a good start. Kash is part filipino from her mom’s side (shoutout Tita Jesah) and she is also half white from her father’s side. So on top of asian representation we also have mixed representation. As for Jadelyn she is fully Cuban.
But let’s talk about the main character more. Irene is filipina as she is played by a filipina actress, which is never seen before until really recently with “Lisa Frankenstein” which features a filipina actress that started off her career in the Filipino Movie Industry before making her big break in America though “Lisa Frankenstein” her name is Liza Soberano and it’s very refreshing seeing an actress I grew up watching in filipino shows appear in american cinema.
I would like to say the representation is nice seeing Filipino Asian girls being portrayed more than the “musically inclined one that ends up being the second lead”.
Anyways, that’s it for me and I’ll see you all in the next one!
